Album 27 / 5. The Badgers

The Badgers

Jean-Paul VERNERET

17/3/2026

They come on the news with a half-hidden smile

Tie sitting straight, eyes fixed far all the while

They tell us “the future needs effort and pain”

While they’re stirring up air and draining our brains

They swear on their honor, hand over their coat

But their honor stops short the edge of their home

(Bridge)

It’s musical chairs on a rumbling ground

They trade all the seats while they’re buying the crown

And we watch the whole show, looking dumb in the light

Hoping one day they won’t just walk out of sight

(Chorus)

They lie like they breathe, it’s their oxygen

Paper-thin promises lost in the wind

Ten seconds post-vote, they’ve betrayed you again

They eat at the trough while we swallow the pain

They toast at our cost in their offices tall

Why do we still run to go vote for them all?

They speak of the poor with a clever disguise

Talk of “those down below” from their paradise

Pretty little speeches, a pat on your back

Once the curtain drops, we’re just fools in the act

It’s the dance of the terms, opportunists’ parade

Where betrayal is queen and lies never fade

(Bridge)

It’s musical chairs on a rumbling ground

They trade all the seats while they’re buying the crown

And we watch the whole show, looking dumb in the light

Hoping one day they won’t just walk out of sight

(Chorus)

They lie like they breathe, it’s their oxygen

Paper-thin promises lost in the wind

Ten seconds post-vote, they’ve betrayed you again

They eat at the trough while we swallow the pain

They toast at our cost in their offices tall

Why do we still run to go vote for them all?

They shake dirty hands they don’t want to know

Then wipe them on us as they exit the show

Carefully chosen words hiding their disdain

They play mighty men but they run from the strain

They promise the moon, they just sell empty air

And leave us with ruins like gifts they don’t care

They cover their faults in polite little lines

But the varnish all cracks when truth finally shines

They’re clueless at best, sometimes dangerous too

Promising futures they can’t even do

They’re good at just one thing: filling their stash

Well-dressed smooth talkers with ugly ideas

(Bridge)

It’s musical chairs on a rumbling ground

They trade all the seats while they’re buying the crown

And we watch the whole show, looking dumb in the light

Hoping one day they won’t just walk out of sight

(Chorus)

They lie like they breathe, it’s their oxygen

Paper-thin promises lost in the wind

Ten seconds post-vote, they’ve betrayed you again

They eat at the trough while we swallow the pain

They toast at our cost in their offices tall

Why do we still run to go vote for them all?
