Album 36 / 5.Among the reeds
Among the Reeds
Jean-Paul VERNERET
17/6/26
Verse 1
The water on the pond still shines, unseen,
Where once your reflection used to be.
Deep in the woods, behind the green,
I hide the memory of you and me.
The songbird’s voice has faded away,
The cold has settled on the lake.
Alone I'll wait for the break of day
To heal the heart that grief can shake.
Bridge
You drifted far away, out there among the reeds...
The mirror of the night has closed its arms to me.
Nothing remains but the cry of the birds,
And the wind softly whispers you'll never return.
Chorus
Tell me where your wandering thoughts have flown,
When the moon is rising and the world sleeps on.
You disappear so deep into the night alone,
Leaving all our promises and the ties we’d known.
Verse 2
The willows bend above dark water's flow,
As if they guard the secret that you keep.
I walk once more where shadows come and go,
Where our footsteps crossed so long ago and deep.
The mist erases every distant shore,
The hours slip away without a sound.
I search the clouds as I have done before,
For some sign of you that can't be found.
Verse 3
The stones still keep the voices of the past,
Caught between the water and the wind.
I speak alone beside the river's glass,
As if you still could hear me once again.
The evening falls upon the waiting trees,
The world grows silent, fading from sight.
And through the memories that weaken me,
Your shadow finds its way back through the night.
